The wedding

Spanish tv news anchor and journalist Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano married the then Prince Felipe of Asturias, heir to the Spanish throne, in the Almudena Cathedral at the Royal Palace of Madrid, Spain. Letizia Ortiz became Princess Letizia and 10 years later when Felipe ascended the throne, becoming King Felipe VI, Princess Letizia became Queen Leitizia.
Royal families around the world attended the wedding, including 36 royal houses and heads of state, including Queen Margrethe of Denmark and her husband, late Prince Henrik; the King and Queen of Norway, Harald and Sonja; Prince Albert of Monaco; Charles, The Prince of Wales, and Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden.

The dress
Letizia’s wedding dress was designed by Spanish fashion designer Manuel Pertegaz (1917-2014). It was made of white satin woven with Valencia silk, with an open standup neckline in the shape of a corolla, long sleeves, wide skirt, and a 4 meter long train. The train, the open collar, cuffs, and hem of the gown are all embroidered with real gold and a floral pattern.

The accessories
Letizia wore The Prussian Tiara, an empire-style tiara in platinum and diamonds, which Queen Sofia (Prince Felipe VI’s mother) had worn on her wedding day to King Juan Carlos in 1962.
The nuptial cloak was a gift from Prince Felipe to Letizia. It was a triangular shape of three meters long and two meter wide, made of natural silk tulle in ivory white with scrolls and hand-embroidered wreaths, which mixed the fleur-de-lis and the spike, details from the Prince of Asturias crest.
The shoes of Letizia were made by Spanish shoe designer Pura Lopez.
